How do I time rhythm-based inputs in this pixel-art platformer?

I keep hitting a wall in this pixel-art platformer where the music swells and the character just freezes, waiting for me to input a sequence of moves that feels almost like conducting the soundtrack. I’m not sure if I’m missing a visual cue or if the game expects me to just feel the rhythm.

That moment is brutal. The music swells and the character just freezes, like you’re waiting for a conductor cue. I kept staring, hoping for a hidden visual signal, but nothing appeared. It felt less like skill and more like the game wants you to time something you can’t see.

I did poke a few buttons when it hit, but it just hung longer. Tried swapping controllers and even lowering input latency, but the freeze kept showing up in that spot. It makes me doubt if it’s supposed to be timing or if something broke.

Maybe the real issue isn’t the beat at all but the level design expects you to do something earlier, and this waits to nudge you into it. The visual cues aren’t obvious, at least for me.

Could be a bug or a design choice I’m not grokking. I’m not confident which is the case, and I don’t feel closer to a fix.
