How do i weigh repairing a gas mower vs switching to electric?

I’m trying to figure out if it’s even worth it to keep my old gas-powered lawn mower running for another season, or if I should just bite the bullet and switch to an electric model. The repair estimate is almost half the cost of a new battery mower, but I keep wondering about the real environmental trade-off of manufacturing a whole new machine versus maintaining the old one.

I kept my gas mower running last season. The repair was around two hundred, plus I did a carb clean myself. It ran okay, but it guzzled gas and made fumes I could smell in the shed. The environmental angle hit me after a few trips to the dump for oil and clogged filters.

I did some rough math: repair cost versus buying a battery mower. A new battery mower would be quieter and easier, but making a new unit and the battery pack uses a lot of resources. The difference in emissions when you actually mow depends a lot on how you use it and your electricity mix.

I ended up with a new electric mower last spring. It started right up, no oil mess, and it mows quickly. Battery life has been solid so far and I track charging days more than fuel. The upfront cost stung, but maintenance is lighter even if the environmental numbers aren't crystal.

Maybe the real issue isn't the mower at all but how much I actually need to mow. If the yard could be managed with less cutting, the whole comparison changes. Do you think the yard size or usage is the real limiter here?
