How do VR treadmills affect immersion when leg movement doesn't match?
#1
I finally got a proper VR treadmill and tried it with a few locomotion-heavy games, but I’m finding the disconnect between my legs moving and my virtual body not quite matching my stride to be a constant distraction. Has anyone else who uses one found that it pulls you out of the experience more than it adds to it?

Yep, that disconnect hits me too. When my legs are really moving, the avatar still feels off and I end up thinking about the mismatch instead of the game.

I've stuck with it through a few games, and the drift in how the body lines up with the motion is the distraction that sticks. Sometimes I just end up shifting my weight hoping it helps, and it usually makes things worse.

Do you think the core issue is the avatar leg rig or is it simply tracking latency creeping in? I keep bouncing between ideas and nothing feels settled.

I drifted into thinking maybe it’s not the treadmill at all but the game’s animation pacing. In one title the feet matched pretty well for a while, in another the same motion felt alien. It’s hard to pin down.
