How do we know if our budget is unusually tight or just rising grocery costs?

I’m trying to figure out if my family’s budget is just unusually tight or if this is what everyone is facing now. Our grocery bill for the same basic items has gone up so much that we’ve had to cut back on driving just to afford food, and I’m not sure how to even measure that trade-off anymore.

I get the squeeze. Our grocery bill jumped a lot and we ended up trimming little trips or small treats just to keep the fridge full.

We kept a simple log for a couple of months and saw staples like milk and bread move up, so we reduced dining out and tried cheaper options.

Is this really about groceries or is wages and other costs creeping up too much for the same lifestyle?

I tried to compare our budget with a neighbor and the numbers felt similar but I still doubt whether our family is really tighter or if we are just in a rough patch.
