How do you decide which parts of your art process are worth sharing?

I’ve been trying to build a consistent posting schedule for my art process videos, but I keep hitting a wall where I feel like I’m just documenting the work without adding any real value for my audience. How do you decide what parts of your creative process are actually worth sharing versus what’s just filler?

i found that the parts where i actually make a choice tend to land better than the long fiddly bits. i started dropping the hours of setup and only kept the moments where i change direction, pick a color, or try a texture and then explain why. people leave comments asking for more of that reasoning, not the exact brush stroke. i track watch time on the decision points and the number of questions in the comments

i keep wondering if this is the real problem or if i’m just bad at editing. i tried journaling the process and filming a map of decisions, but it still felt like filler. maybe the audience wants something else, or maybe i need to post more often to prove consistency.

the rush version i made a tight 4 minute cut and cut out 80 percent of the clip, leaving the moment i choose a color and what it changes about the piece. feedback was mixed, some people asked for more context, some said it felt clinical. i tried adding one sentence at the top about what i’m testing next and that helped a bit, but not a magic fix.

i used to worry about gear and lighting as the problem, then realized i might be chasing the wrong thing. this drift off topic made me think maybe the value is in the mindset changes you see in the process, not the gear. do you really need the backstory to value the piece?
