How does mixed reality mode affect rhythm game accuracy and immersion?
#1
I finally got a chance to try out the new mixed reality mode in that rhythm game, and honestly, it left me feeling a bit disoriented. My brain couldn't decide whether to focus on the incoming notes in my actual room or the virtual effects layered over them, and I kept missing beats I normally hit. Has anyone else found that blending your physical space with the game world actually makes certain types of gameplay harder instead of more immersive?

I tried the mixed reality mode last night. It was cool to see my room blend with the game, but my brain kept flipping between real and virtual notes and I started missing beats I usually nail. I think the spatial cues were fighting with my timing, and the room lighting didn’t help either.

I did a test on the couch with a lamp casting weird shadows and I felt the depth cues threw me off. I kept overcorrecting and chasing echoes of where the notes should be. After a couple songs I started focusing too much on the virtual bars and not enough on my feet.

Is the real problem the calibration or do I just need more practice with two spaces at once? I’m not sure if the setup is misreading me or if my rhythm brain is just not ready for it.

I tried a quick practice block, paused to reset my stance, and still felt off. Maybe I just need a bigger room or a calmer setup, or maybe this approach isn't for me—I can't quite tell if it's the mode or me. It felt unfinished, like I failed to adapt rather than the game failing me.
