How is this layer-1 PoS different in finality and slashing terms?

I’m trying to evaluate a potential investment in a new layer-1, and their whitepaper keeps emphasizing their novel approach to achieving consensus. I’m just not sure I fully grasp how their proof-of-stake mechanism is materially different from the established ones in terms of finality and slashing conditions.

I studied their whitepaper and keep circling back to the claim about finality. I looked at how many votes it takes and how long it takes to finalize a block and I wonder if those numbers hold under network noise.

I tried a small testnet and saw validators get slashed for double signing, but the rules felt opaque and the penalties seemed to arrive only after a long delay.

Another angle I chased was how the staking thresholds are tuned and whether the system rewards long term uptime or quick missteps, and I kept getting conflicting signals from different diagrams in the doc.

Do you think the real problem is the math or the governance side of the protocol?
