How much does sample temperature affect dissolved oxygen tests in aquariums?
#1
I’m trying to measure the dissolved oxygen in my aquarium water using a chemical test kit, but my readings seem inconsistent. I’m wondering if the temperature of the water sample when I add the reagents is throwing off the results, because my apartment is quite cool compared to the tank’s heated water.

Yeah I’ve seen that with dissolved oxygen tests. The sample in the cold apartment warms up while you handle it and the color changes end up jumping around.

I tried letting the sample warm to room temp before adding reagents, and then rechecking after a few minutes. It felt more stable, though not perfect.

Do you follow the kit’s temperature guidance exactly, or is that not stated?

One time I kept a little log: time from draw to read, exact temp, and which droppers I used. The numbers moved a bit, and I realized timing mattered more than I expected.
