How should I introduce myself when I'm new in town on this forum?

I just moved to a new city and joined this forum to try and meet people, but I’m honestly not sure how to start. Do I just jump into random conversations, or is there a better way to introduce myself without feeling like I’m interrupting?

I moved last year and felt the same. I introduced myself in a thread and kept it light about where I am from, a hobby I enjoy, and a local thing I liked already. Then I replied to a few posts that matched my interests. It felt less like barging in and more like joining a conversation that was already happening.

Lurked a few days, read the tone, and answered small questions in existing threads. Not trying to start something new every time just add something small. It grew into actual chats.

I once jumped into a meetup thread with a bold hello and asked about coffee spots. It sounded natural in my head but I got radio silence for a week. I learned to wait a beat, respond to something specific, and not expect instant replies.

Do you think the real problem is just finding a couple people you actually click with and then building from that, rather than trying to be the social glue for everything?
