How should I optimize electric vehicle battery health for a daily commute?
#1
I just got my first EV and I’m trying to figure out the best way to manage its battery health for daily use. My commute is only about 20 miles round trip, so I don’t need a full charge every night, but I’ve heard keeping it plugged in all the time isn’t ideal either.

I’m in the same boat, about 20 miles round trip. I keep the daily charge around 70 to 80 percent. I plug in every night but don’t top to 100 unless I’m planning a longer drive. It feels like a small routine and the range is fine for my days.

I used to top off to 100 and leave it plugged in all the time. After a while I started noticing the car’s hints about long term wear, so now I stick to ~80% most days and only go to 100 if I know I’ll need more. I think that helps battery health.

Do you have a home charger with adjustable charge limits? If not, that might be part of the problem.

I tried leaving it plugged in all the time and it felt convenient but it also felt silly after a few weeks. I set a schedule to charge overnight only during off peak and it saved energy, plus I wasn’t staring at the battery percentage all day.
