How well do later Sailor Moon dubs or manga capture Usagi's speech quirk?

I’ve been rewatching the original *Sailor Moon* anime, and I’m honestly a bit confused about how the dub I watched as a kid handled Usagi’s speech patterns. She uses that first-person pronoun so much in Japanese, but my old English version just made her sound generically whiny. I’m wondering if later dubs or the manga translation managed to capture that specific quirk of her character better.

I remember the old DiC dub—Usagi sounded like a constant whine, and that Japanese habit of using the first person a lot never really came through. It felt like they just tweaked the voice into a general moody teen.

The Viz manga English translations tried to keep a teen voice but I don’t think they tried to reproduce the pronoun quirks you see in Japanese. They just used plain I/me most of the time, which changed the rhythm.

Watching Sailor Moon Crystal with English subs, the tone felt more grounded, and the jokes landed without the squeaky tilt that the early dub had. It still wasn’t a perfect match to the Japanese cadence, but it was closer.

Do you remember if the sub or the dub came closer to that vibe for you, or did it depend on the arc?
