How worried should I be about inconsistent home blood pressure readings?
#1
I’ve been told my blood pressure is a bit high at my last two check-ups, but I don’t really feel any different. My doctor mentioned monitoring it at home, and the readings I get are all over the place—sometimes normal, sometimes not. I’m not sure what to make of this inconsistency or if I should be concerned when I feel fine.

I had something similar. Readings bounced around for weeks. I learned that cuff size, posture, and how long I rest before taking the measurement make big differences. I started sitting with my back supported, feet uncrossed, arm resting at heart level, and waited about five minutes before taking the reading. Logs helped me see patterns more than a single number.

For me, taking two readings in the morning and two at night for a couple of weeks gave a clearer picture. One high reading worried me less when I could see it in the context of several days.

Sometimes the spike wasn’t about pressure at all but about what happened right before: coffee, stress, even a cold room. After noticing those little triggers, I tried to measure when I felt calmer, and the numbers behaved a bit more.

I still feel uneasy because the last two checkups were only a little high and I’m asymptomatic. It’s hard to tell if the issue is real or just how I’m measuring. Is your doctor asking you to keep a log at a specific time?
