Is the live-action Avatar faithful to the cartoon or did it lose its heart?

I just watched the new live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender, and I can’t decide if it’s a faithful adaptation or if it’s lost the heart of the original cartoon. The characters look right and the bending is cool, but something about the pacing and the way they deliver the lore feels off to me, like it’s checking boxes instead of telling a story.

I watched Avatar: The Last Airbender last night, and the look and bending are great, but the pacing rubbed me the wrong way. The world-building felt perfunctory, like they checked a box instead of letting scenes breathe.

Tried giving it a second watch this afternoon to test the pacing theory. The lore drops felt squeezed, and I kept waiting for a moment that would make the setup pay off, but it never did.

Maybe the real problem isn't the adaptation choices but what I personally want from it—am I chasing nostalgia or a fresher take on the same world?

I started counting the lore beats and they came so quickly I forgot who taught what to whom. I did pause and skim the wiki later, and it felt like two episodes got merged. Still, a few moments hit—like a character's quiet line that landed.
