Reliable online tutoring resources for calculus in limited timeframes
#1
I’m a returning student in my late twenties, trying to pick up calculus after nearly a decade away from any kind of formal math. I work full-time and have a very limited evening budget, so I’ve been really focused on finding reliable online tutoring resources that don’t cost a fortune or require a rigid weekly schedule. My goal is to get through a community college pre-calc requirement by next semester, but after a few false starts, I’m starting to feel stuck.

I tried using Khan Academy, which is free, but its structured video format doesn’t let me ask questions when I get hung up on one specific concept—like factoring rational exponents. Then I signed up for a month of Chegg Study for about $16, which was helpful for seeing step-by-step solutions, but the explanations felt too generic and sometimes skipped steps I needed spelled out. Or maybe I just wasn’t using it right. I also briefly considered a local tutoring center, but with my evening commute, I just can’t get there before they close.

For someone with a similar schedule and rusty math skills, what specific free or low-cost tutoring platforms have actually worked when you needed real-time or near-real-time help with a tricky problem? I’m especially curious about services where I can upload a photo of my work and get a human response within a few hours, without committing to a full package.
