Reliable sources for finding local community events and contests in the next month o
#1
I’ve been trying to get more plugged into what’s happening around town, but honestly, I keep missing the boat on upcoming local community events and contests. I moved here about six months ago, and between settling into a new job and navigating a tight budget, I’ve felt pretty disconnected. Now that I have a bit more free time, I’m determined to find things that are actually happening nearby, not just the big festival stuff that’s always packed and expensive.

So far, I tried a couple of things that flopped. I found a gardening competition through a city Facebook group, but I showed up to the venue on the wrong day because the post was from 2022. I also bought a $15 pass for a neighborhood trivia night that turned out to be a private birthday party—though, I guess maybe the event was just poorly advertised, not a complete scam. I’d rather not waste more cash or time chasing dead ends, so I’m hoping to zero in on reliable sources.

If you’re someone who actually manages to find free or low-cost community events and contests a month or two in advance, what’s your go-to place to check first? Is it the library bulletin board, a specific Instagram account for your city, or something totally different that I haven’t thought of? I’d love to hear what actually works for you.
