Should a classic cartoon reboot keep the rough edges or polish them?

I just watched the new season of that 90s cartoon reboot, and I’m honestly conflicted. The animation is gorgeous and modern, but the characters feel so safe and polished compared to the original's rough edges. It’s missing that specific spark of chaotic charm that made me love it as a kid. Has anyone else felt this way about a recent revival?

Totally felt that. The visuals are stunning, but the characters feel a lot safer and smoother than the messy charm I remember from the old run.

I tried a quick side-by-side and noticed shorter, cleaner scenes and punchier lines. The risky, offbeat moments got dialed back, and it shows.

Do you think it’s the writing or the design choices that created that safe vibe?

I grabbed a couple of favorite chaotic moments from the original and watched them again, and my mood just drifted; maybe the past vibe isn’t something you can recapture, or maybe I’m chasing the wrong thing.
