Should ceramic coating be worth it, or is a good sealant enough?

I’m trying to decide if I should get a ceramic coating applied to my new car. The detailer says it’s great for protection, but I’m wondering if it’s really worth the cost compared to just using a high-quality sealant every few months. Has anyone lived with a coated car for a couple of years?

I did the coating on a new car a couple years back. It looked amazing at first, washing was effortless, and water just rolled off. By year two the gloss is still solid and I’m not waxing every other month, but it didn’t stop the occasional stone chip or stubborn water spots after a rain. It feels like a time saver, not magic.

I went with a solid high quality sealant and just reapply every 4 to 6 months. Cheaper upfront, and over two years the shine stayed decent. You’ll need to remember a schedule, but it fits in my budget and I don’t worry about the price tag of a long term coating.

I keep wondering if the real issue is the care routine more than the finish. If the car sits outside in sun, dirt, birds, and salt, a glaze or coating only helps so much. The daily wash and gentleness might be what actually makes the difference, not the coating alone.

I wanted to believe it would be a big difference, but after two years the decision still feels half baked. The coating sounds great but the cost and the occasional maintenance scare me more than a simple sealant would.
