Should I add a decline bench press or increase push-up volume?
#1
I’ve been doing a standard push-up routine for months, but my chest development seems to have completely stalled. I’m wondering if adding a decline bench press to my workout would be the right move to break through this plateau, or if I should just increase my push-up volume instead.

I went through the same thing for months. More pushups, the same chest size, and the progress just stopped.

I tried tempo and paused reps, kept volume similar, and it felt different, but gains didn't change after a few weeks.

I bumped my load for a couple of heavy sets with short rests and even wore a weighted vest on some days. It felt tougher, but the chest size still didn't move much.

A coach suggested a decline bench press to hit the lower chest from a different angle. I tried it briefly, it felt awkward, and I wasn’t sure it moved the needle.

Maybe the issue is recovery. Sleep, protein, and stress management made a small difference when I tightened those up.

I tried a deload week and listened to my shoulders; pulled back from max effort for a bit, then resumed. The plateau was still there.

Are you sure the plateau is chest and not something else like technique or tempo? Might be chasing the wrong signal.
