Should I adjust my evening workouts to improve hrv and recovery?

I’ve been tracking my HRV for months now, and I’ve noticed it consistently drops after my evening strength training sessions, even though I feel fine. I’m trying to figure out if this is a sign I should adjust the timing or intensity of my workouts for better recovery.

Yep, I track HRV and after evening strength it usually dips the next morning. I feel fine, but the numbers don’t lie. I’ve started dialing back volume a notch and spacing sessions a bit more to give the nervous system a break.

I tried moving the workout to earlier in the day for a couple weeks. HRV averaged higher, but it wasn’t perfect—some nights still showed a dip. The big thing for me was checking sleep quality and stress; when sleep got flaky the HRV dropped regardless of timing.

Could the problem be the metric itself rather than recovery?

I did a small test: kept intensity the same but reduced total sets by 20 percent on evenings, and the HRV dip softened a bit, but not consistently. Might be noise, might be something else.
