Should I be worried about a P0420 check engine light if the car drives fine?

As a preschool teacher with 15 years experience, I've noticed some common patterns in raising toddlers tips that parents could benefit from. There are certain child development tips that aren't always obvious but make a huge difference in the long run.

I'm thinking about things like emotional regulation, language development, and social skills. What positive parenting tips have you found most effective for the 2-4 age range? I'm particularly interested in parenting techniques that support healthy development without being overly structured or stressful.

From my professional experience, I see many parenting mistakes to avoid that can unintentionally hinder development. What parenting expert advice have you received that changed how you approach toddler years?

This is so helpful. As a mom of a toddler, I sometimes worry I'm missing important child development tips. One thing I've noticed is that emotional regulation is huge at this age, but it's not always obvious how to teach it.

What positive parenting tips do you recommend for helping toddlers manage big feelings? I've read conflicting parenting blog 2025 articles about whether to comfort immediately or give space.

I wish I had known more about raising toddlers tips when my kids were that age. The parenting mistakes to avoid that I made were mostly around expecting too much emotional control from little kids.

One parenting technique I learned too late is naming emotions for them. Like I see you're feeling frustrated because the block tower fell." It seems simple but really helps with child development.

I'm taking notes for when my baby becomes a toddler! The parenting advice for new parents often skips over these developmental details.

What are some early signs that you might be missing important child development tips? I want to make sure I'm supporting my child's growth without being overly anxious about it.

My 2017 Civic’s check engine light came on last week, and the code reader says it’s a P0420 for catalyst system efficiency below threshold. The weird part is the car drives completely normally, no loss of power or odd smells. I’m just not sure if I should be worried about this right away or if it’s something that can wait a bit.

That P0420 code on my Civic showed up once. The car drove perfectly, no power loss or odd smells, but the light stayed on. I swapped the upstream oxygen sensor as a cheap first step and the warning vanished.

I wouldn't rush to assume the worst, but I wouldn't ignore it either. Often it's a sensor or a small exhaust leak rather than a blown cat.

If you can, pull live data or have a shop check downstream O2 sensor readings and look for any exhaust leaks around the catalyst housing.

I tried a few tanks of mixed driving and watched for changes; MPG looked about the same and the light stayed stubbornly on, so I kept driving and waited.

One time I wondered if it was moisture or fuel additives fooling the sensors; nothing obvious changed and the light persisted.

Do you have a recent emissions test or maintenance history that might hint at what sparked it?
