Should i blame my merge technique or could it be the car issue?

I was merging onto a busy highway yesterday and my car just didn’t seem to have the power to get up to speed. I felt like I was crawling in the merge lane with traffic flying past me, and it was honestly pretty scary. Is this more about my technique or could it be something with the car itself?

That sounds terrifying. I’ve had that exact feeling when the power just wasn’t there on a merge and traffic screams past. It sticks with you.

I used to blame technique first. I’d try to time the ramp, squeeze the gas, and still feel like I was in slow motion. Sometimes backing off a bit earlier and getting a longer run at speed helped, but not always.

Sometimes I checked obvious stuff after, like tires and oil, and I’d still be unsure. One time it turned out the air filter looked clogged after a long trip and a quick clean woke things up a little, but it wasn’t a slam dunk fix.

Quick question: was the check engine light on?
