Should I buy a monthly transit pass or pay per ride with two bus routes?

I’m trying to figure out if it’s worth getting a monthly transit pass for my new commute, or if I should just pay per trip. My route involves two different bus systems and a short ride on the light rail, and I’m not sure how the fare integration works between them.

I went through this last year when I started a job that used two buses and a short light rail hop. A full monthly pass on one system saved me every weekday, but the other system charged separately and I didn’t get cross‑system transfers. If there is any regional or multi‑system pass, it’s worth checking, even if it’s just a cap on some trips.

I did pay per ride for a month and kept a tiny tally. On light rail days I biked or timed trips to avoid the math, then realized the extra legs pushed the total over what a monthly pass would’ve cost. It felt cheaper at first, then not.

I kept circling back to the idea of fare integration and still felt unclear. The two systems use different cards and different tap rules, so you can lose value if you aren’t careful. It wasn’t a clean answer, but I did notice transfers weren’t seamless.

Have you looked for a regional pass that covers both networks?
