Should I buy on Steam or Epic Games Store given controller support and a sale?

I've been trying to decide between buying a game on Steam or the Epic Games Store, and the different feature sets are making it hard. I really value Steam's controller support and family sharing, but the Epic version is on sale right now and includes some extra cosmetic items I like. I'm not sure if the platform-specific features are worth the extra cost on my end.

I stuck with my usual store because of the controller support and the family sharing angle. It felt easier to keep my library synced and to lend it to my partner without extra logins. The other store's sale with cosmetics looked tempting, but I wasn't ready to trade those comforts for a few extra items.

I tried breaking it down by price plus what I actually use week to week. The sale saved money, but I rarely care about cosmetics, and the extra login friction of a new storefront and checkout flow bugged me more than I expected.

I keep wondering if the problem is really about platform perks or if I just want a smoother checkout and easier sharing. Is the real issue the features, or am I chasing something else?

I did a quick test; bought the game on the cheaper option, kept the same saves across devices, and the difference felt negligible after a day, so the extra perks didn't swing it for me.
