Should I buy the PS5 physical disc or digital version when on sale?

I just got a PS5 and I'm trying to decide if I should buy the physical disc version of the new game or just download it. The digital is on sale, but I'm worried about losing access later or if my hard drive fills up.

I went with the physical disc version last year. It’s nice to have a tangible copy and you can lend or resell it. The download stays tied to your account, so you can re-download whenever you want. If your internet is spotty, you can still install from the disc and play. But you’ll still need space, and some big games eat up a lot of storage, so an external drive helps.

For me the digital sale looked tempting, but I worried about future access. You rely on Sony’s store and your license, so if a game ever gets delisted or if the store changes, you might run into trouble. Plus, you don’t own a physical item. Still, it’s nice not dealing with discs and you can switch machines easily.

Do you actually lose access to a game if it’s wiped from the store? In practice, your license stays with your account, but I’ve heard stories and it makes you wonder if the problem is real or just anxiety.

I did what others said and got a cheap external drive. It’s a simple swap: move some games off the internal to free space, then swap back when you want to play them. It made a big difference in how many big games I can keep installed.
