Should i cite a preprint from arXiv in my literature review?

I'm trying to decide if I should cite a preprint I found on arXiv in my literature review chapter. It's directly relevant to my thesis, but my supervisor is very traditional and I'm worried it might be seen as using an unvetted source. I don't know if the final published version will change significantly.

I pulled a similar move last year. I found a version that matched my argument, but I treated it as supplementary and noted that it hadn’t been peer reviewed yet. I also kept an eye on whether the final published version came out and what it actually changed.

If that version is central to your chapter, cite it but clearly label it as not peer reviewed and commit to updating if the final version diverges.

Do you have a sense of how your supervisor would react to non peer reviewed sources?

I remember feeling like the problem was bigger than the source—like it mattered only if the data storyline stayed intact, and then the rest of the literature started to look different anyway.
