Should i consider therapeutic drug monitoring for my antidepressant levels?
#1
I’ve been on the same antidepressant for about three years now, and while it helped at first, I feel like it’s just not working like it used to. My doctor mentioned the possibility of a therapeutic drug monitoring test to check the level in my blood, but I’m not sure what to expect from that or if it’s even worth doing. Has anyone gone through this process when their medication seemed to stop being effective?

I tried a blood level check after the meds started to feel lukewarm again. They drew blood once I’d been on the same dose for several weeks so the level could settle. It came back in the low to mid range, which surprised me because I’d assumed it would be obvious. We nudged the dose a bit and kept going with therapy, and the mood shift was small and slow but better than nothing.

My lab result showed the level was fine, but I still felt blah. It made me wonder if maybe the issue was something else—sleep, caffeine, stress, life stuff—more than the drug level.

Not sure it was worth it for me. The wait for results and the follow-up chat felt like chasing a moving target. For some people it helps, but for me the relief wasn't tied to the numbers.

If I decide to do it, how long should I wait after a dose change to see a real mood shift, and what exactly does the level tell us?
