Should I disable auto-brightness to save battery on my new phone?
#1
My new phone's battery seems to drain incredibly fast, even when I'm just browsing on Wi-Fi. I checked the battery usage stats, and the screen is listed as the top consumer by a huge margin, but my brightness is set to auto and I'm not using it more than my old phone.

I went through something similar with a newer model. Even when I was just browsing on Wi Fi the screen felt like the main drain. I ended up forcing the display to 60 Hz and turning off extra motion in the accessibility settings. It helped for a day or two before the drain crept back.

It also crossed my mind that the battery stats can mislead you. I killed a couple of apps that kept waking and checked wake locks, but the screen still looked like the culprit.

I tried rebooting, clearing cache, and even resetting display calibration once, but nothing permanent changed. The phone still felt warm and the battery dropped quickly.

Have you checked whether the display is actually running at a high refresh rate all the time or if adaptive brightness is misbehaving?
