Should I disable HUD alerts that distract me during daily driving?
#1
I just got a new car with a fancy head-up display, and I’m finding the constant stream of information in my line of sight more distracting than helpful. Has anyone else felt this way and figured out which specific alerts or data points are actually worth keeping turned on for daily driving?

I started with everything on, and it was a constant visual tide. I finally cut it to essentials: speed, speed limit indicator, and the next turn in navigation. Lane-keeping alert stayed on for highway stuff. After a couple of weeks it feels less like data overload and more like an optional coach.

I left them all on for a month and felt stressed. I turned off the nav arrows and the distance-to-empty readout, kept only speed and the collision warning at low risk times. It’s quieter, and I still catch the big stuff when it matters. I still miss some context sometimes, though.

I put the HUD slightly lower and dimmer, and I kept only the speed and lane departure. The rest I stopped looking for. I did notice I drove smoother on highways, and my eye movement per mile dropped a little. Not a formal test, just how it felt.

Is the real problem the HUD itself or just my habit of glancing at gadgets all the time?
