Should I dispute a neighbor's fence that's over the property line after a survey?

My neighbor's new fence is definitely over the property line by a good six inches, according to my own survey. I'm not sure if this is something I should just let go or if I need to formally dispute it, as I'm worried about setting a precedent for the property boundary.

I had a similar thing last year. The fence looked six inches over the boundary, and I wasn’t sure what to do. I measured again, then talked to the neighbor calmly, showed my survey, and offered to share the cost of a professional check if they wanted. It felt better to flag it early instead of letting it fester.

If it’s clearly past the line, you probably want a licensed surveyor, pull the deed map, and document the encroachment. Then decide about mediation or a quiet adjustment.

Do you know if the title or plat shows the line?

I keep thinking maybe the real issue isn’t the fence but how we handle these little disputes. I worried about setting a precedent and ended up letting it slide, which made me more anxious later.
