Should i downgrade to 1080p or upgrade my gpu for better 1440p gaming?

I just upgraded to a 1440p monitor and my old GTX 1070 is really struggling to hit 60 fps in newer titles, even with settings turned down. I'm trying to decide if I should just lower my resolution back to 1080p for now or if that upgrade path to a better graphics card is actually worth the significant cost right now.

Yep I had a similar dilemma. I pushed my 1070 at a higher resolution and some games looked sharper, others felt choked. I tried dropping to 1080p for a while to hit a steady 60, and it mostly worked, but a few newer AAA titles still taxed the card and the visuals suffered. It felt like a temporary fix, not a real solution.

If you’re weighing a card upgrade, I did the math and price-to-performance was rough, especially around big releases. I ended up waiting for a sale or considering a used midrange option instead of a brand-new card. The newer GPUs do feel smoother in games, but the cost is real.

Sometimes the bottleneck isn’t the GPU. In a couple of titles my older CPU became a limiter at higher res, so I trimmed background tasks and dialed back some heavy effects. FPS still fluctuated in big scenes, which was frustrating.

Do you value a rock solid 60 now, or would you rather chase crisper visuals even if it means the frame drops occasionally?
