Should I drive with the check engine light on or get it scanned now?

My check engine light came on yesterday, but it’s not flashing and the car seems to drive completely normally. I’m just not sure if I should be worried enough to drop everything and get it scanned immediately, or if it’s okay to drive for a few days until my usual mechanic has an opening.

I once saw a check engine light come on and the car felt fine I fiddled with the gas cap and the light went off after a day that helped me breathe a bit.

Last time mine came on I tightened the gas cap and drove around for a couple days then booked a scan for later in the week.

If the light stays steady and you are not noticing any rough running it might not be urgent but I would plan a check soon.

Sometimes a steady light is a sign of something simple and other times it hides a fault you cannot feel yet do you think this is the real problem or could it be something else?

If you can get a quick scan they will tell you if there is a pending fault without turning it into a big thing.

I am torn here I want to say go now but I also think you could wait a bit and see if anything changes.
