Should I drop Steam client for the new desktop app that shows all my libraries?

I'm trying to decide if I should finally ditch the standalone Steam client and just use the new desktop app that lets me see my library from all my different stores in one place. It's convenient, but I'm worried about losing some of the deeper features and community integration I rely on.

I kept the standalone Steam client around for a while but switched to the desktop app to see everything in one library. The cross store view is convenient and it cuts down on tabs, which is nice after years of bouncing between pages. But I miss the deeper community stuff—the friends list in one place, the quick chat, the workshop updates, and the in game overlay that used to feel like part of the same system. I still open Steam for those bits, so for me the best setup is both.

Tried it for about a week. The app loads fast and the library sync felt solid, but I kept tripping over missing features: reviews from the store feel different, and some notifications don’t land the same way. The absence of certain overlay functions made me less confident buying things or troubleshooting, so I kept the old client around.

Honestly I was surprised how much I preferred the new view for quick browsing, yet disappointed when I tilted toward mods and community posts. It’s not that the app is bad, it just didn’t replace the habit of opening the other client.

Is the real problem that you want a single place to discover games, or that you need the community feed and in game hooks to stay active?
