Should I follow charging etiquette at my apartment for my electric vehicle?
#1
I just got my first EV and I'm trying to figure out the best way to handle charging at my apartment complex. They have a few shared Level 2 stations, but I'm worried about etiquette and how often I should move my car once it's done to avoid being that person who hogs the spot all day.

I’m in the same boat. I try to move my car within about 10 to 15 minutes after it finishes charging, especially if there’s a line forming. I set a timer on my phone so I don’t forget. It helps that the spots are near the entrance, so I don’t drag it out.

There was one day I hung around for 20 minutes while it finished charging and then waited for a coworker to leave. It felt like I was hogging it, so I started leaving the lot and checking the queue in the HOA app. Still awkward, but better.

Is the real issue the number of chargers? I’ve heard a lot of complexes don’t have enough spaces for demand, so rules or reservations might help more than etiquette. Do you think management will add more chargers or enforce a policy?

I tried a simple rule: charge to 80 percent at home when possible, and unplug right away if someone’s waiting. It’s not perfect, and I still worry I’m missing something, but it’s a start.
