Should i get a monthly transit pass for an irregular commute?
#1
I’m trying to figure out if I should start using a monthly transit pass for my commute, but my schedule is a bit irregular. Some weeks I’m in the office five days, other weeks it’s only two or three, and I can’t tell if the break-even point makes sense for that kind of unpredictable usage.

I did the math last month and the monthly pass would be a little cheaper even when I miss days.

Some weeks I am in the office four days and the next week only two and that makes the math feel wasteful.

I bought the pass once and used it for a few weeks before the schedule shifted and I ended up paying for days I did not ride.

A coworker told me the break even point depends on how you value flexibility which is hard to quantify.

To test it I logged my trips for a month and saw that the pass would have saved me in some weeks but not enough to justify the cost in others.

Maybe the real problem is not the math but the unpredictability of weeks so is that the real issue?
