Should i go 1440p or 4k with rtx 4070 for future games?

I’m trying to decide between a 1440p and a 4K monitor for my new setup, and I keep wondering if my RTX 4070 is really enough to drive the higher resolution smoothly in newer games. I see benchmarks showing playable frame rates at 4K with settings tweaks, but I’m worried it might struggle in a year or two.

I went with a RTX 4070 setup and a mid/high refresh monitor, and in practice most new titles ran smoothly with a mix of medium-high presets and DLSS. It felt crisp and motion was solid, even when I kept the frame times reasonable. The catch was VRAM budgets in big open worlds; when textures or crowds got heavy I had to dial things back a bit.

I ran into a handful of titles where the GPU still wrestled a bit, so I toggled upscaling and leaned on a few cheap quality gains. It wasn't a disaster, but it did make me wonder if I should've gone bigger sooner or accept that future releases may push further.

Do you game at 120 Hz or is 60 fps enough for you?

I also drifted into panel stuff for a minute, like latency and flicker, and it reminded me the problem might not be just the GPU. I ended up choosing a monitor I could live with for long sessions and kept worrying about whether aging hardware would change the math.
