Should I go with a 27-inch or 32-inch monitor for coding and photo editing?

I’m trying to decide between a 27-inch and a 32-inch monitor for my home office desk, which is about 60 inches wide. I mostly do coding and some light photo editing, and I’m worried the larger screen might feel overwhelming or force me to move my head too much during long sessions.

I tried a 32 inch on a desk that’s 60 inches wide. It felt big enough to pull my eyes all over. I sit about 24 inches away and found myself turning my head to catch things on the edges while typing. After a couple weeks I swapped to a 27 inch 1440p and the text stayed sharp and I didn’t fight the view as much.

I did a quick mock-up by taping a cardboard rectangle the size of a 32 inch display on the wall at the same viewing distance. It looked huge and crowded, so I started leaning back a bit and rethinking layout. The 27 inch left more breathing room and I could keep code and docs in view without craning.

Do you actually need more screen real estate or would the same workhorse effect come from crisper text and smarter window layout?

If you can borrow or test a 32 inch screen or use a retailer with a good return policy, that may reveal what actually feels off in practice.
