Should I install a wall charger or use a 240V outlet for my apartment EV?

I just got my first EV, a used Ioniq 5, and I'm trying to figure out the best way to handle charging at my apartment. My landlord is willing to let me install something, but I'm stuck deciding between a standard 240V outlet or a dedicated wall unit, especially since I only have assigned parking, not a private garage.

First apartment setup I tried the same choice. I had a 240V outlet installed in my assigned spot and used a portable charger. It was cheap and flexible but charging was slow enough that I would see a full charge only after midnight if I started late. We had to coordinate with maintenance for the circuit and keep an eye on the shared panel so nothing tripped. It worked but I would not call it smooth.

Dedicated wall unit sounds nice in theory but in my building it became a whole process with the landlord permits and eventually a panel upgrade. The unit would have saved time but the timeline turned into months and I was still relying on the slow outlet. For the Ioniq 5 the wall charger would push the charge faster but the cost and friction were real for my EV.

Is the real problem the parking spot access or the idea that charging has to be fixed at home I keep thinking maybe public chargers or shared options would fix it but that just shifts the problem?

Sometimes I drift into thinking about the vibe of the building management and whether a small outdoor pedestal would ever be approved. Then I snap back to the reality of monthly rent and the risk of upgrading something that may not get used if you move. In the end I kept it simple and just used whatever the landlord allowed.
