Should i install ubisoft connect just for one assassin's creed game?

I'm trying to decide if it's worth installing the Ubisoft Connect launcher just to play one older Assassin's Creed game I picked up on sale. My main library is on Steam, and I'm already juggling a few other clients, so adding another one feels like a hassle for a single title. I’m curious if others have found that specific platform to be lightweight enough to just leave running in the background, or if it tends to be more trouble than it's worth for a casual playthrough.

I did install it for one old Assassin's Creed title and, honestly, it was fine. It runs quietly in the background once you’ve logged in and the initial patching is done. RAM hovered around 150–250 MB when idle, CPU barely moved. It didn’t crash or steal cycles the way some launchers do. I left it open while I hopped between Steam and other apps and it barely registered. The only snag was occasional background updates that pinged a login prompt, which is annoying if you’re just trying to launch quickly. For a casual playthrough it felt tolerable, not great, but not enough to drive me crazy either.

I skipped it entirely. Bought the game on sale and figured I’d avoid another client. Steam plus offline mode worked for me, and I only turned on the launcher when I needed cloud saves or cross-platform progress, which I rarely use. So I kept it off and it was fine.

Honestly I’m not sure the problem is the launcher itself or if the game even needs it on modern systems. The extra client felt like a maintenance loop—updates, logins, prompts—when all I wanted was the game. Is the extra client really necessary for a single older title, or is the DRM trap the bigger issue here?

Sometimes I forget it’s there until I need to use it, then I think about how adding another client just to play one game is wild. My mind drifts to publishers bundling everything into one store, to how updates can pop at the worst times, and then I circle back to whether the hassle is worth it for a single classic game.
