Should i keep my ev plugged in all the time or only when below a set percentage?

I just got my first EV and I’m trying to figure out the best way to manage the battery health for daily driving. My commute is only about 20 miles round trip, so I’m never using much of the capacity, but I’ve read conflicting things about whether I should keep it plugged in all the time at home or only when it gets below a certain percentage.

You're in a good spot. With a 20 mile round trip you're not pulling much from the pack day to day. A lot of people I know just keep the car plugged in at home and set a daily charging limit around 80 percent if the car supports it. It helps avoid unnecessary full cycle charging and heat exposure. If it’s hot where you park, try to park in shade or indoors when you can.

I tried leaving it plugged in all the time and it felt fine for a while, but I swear the range estimate seemed off after a few months. I switched to charging to about 70-80% most days and it seems steadier, though my memory is fuzzy.

Do you have a way in your car app to set a fixed daily limit? It would make a big difference to me.

I kept thinking about how we treat phone batteries and it kept nagging at me. The car's battery management is supposed to handle this. Anyway, for you I’d say don’t chase perfection—just pick a comfortable limit near 80% and don't obsess about the last few percent.
