Should I keep taking a statin if I have muscle aches but my ldl is in range?

I’ve been on a statin for about six months now, and my last lipid panel showed my LDL is finally in a good range, but I’ve been getting these persistent muscle aches in my thighs and calves. My doctor mentioned it could be a side effect and to monitor it, but I’m unsure if this level of discomfort is just something to push through or if it means the medication isn’t right for me.

I’m in the same boat. Six months on a statin, LDL finally in a good range, but the muscle aches hit my thighs and calves every evening. I stuck with it for a while, told my doctor, and we did a basic check. Nothing alarming showed up, so we talked about options. I kept the med but added regular gentle stretching and bumped up fluids; the pain still comes and goes, and it’s hard to tell if it’s the drug or just life.

Sometimes it feels like it could be anything else. I started paying attention to sleep, hydration, and training load, and the aches shifted a bit. It barely changes things, so I’m unsure if the statin is the culprit or if I’m overthinking it.

I did ask about CK tests and dose adjustments. They checked a few things, and we considered a different statin if the pain kept up. The lipids stayed okay, so we didn’t rush to change meds, but I didn’t get a clean yes either.

Maybe the real problem isn’t the drug at all, maybe it’s stress or overuse catching up. Have you noticed if the pain comes on after long walks or stairs?
