Should i niche down or keep multiple topics for growth on short-form video?

I’ve been trying to build a consistent audience by posting short-form video content, but my views are completely stagnant. I keep hearing that the algorithm favors consistent niches, but I genuinely enjoy making videos about a few different topics within my broader field. Is it unrealistic to expect any growth without picking just one narrow thing and sticking to it forever?

I did the narrow thing for a while, posted every day for a few months, saw some growth then a wall. I liked the clarity but got burned out trying to force it. It felt like the algorithm cared about consistency more than what I actually enjoyed making.

Then I tried a few topics in the same broad field, hoping crossovers would lift both. Some videos did okay when I connected two ideas, but most days it didn’t move. It felt unpredictable, like audience interests were drifting and I couldn't pin it down.

I did a test where I skipped a week, then posted two videos in a row after a long gap. Engagement dipped and then came back, which made me doubt what mattered.

Do you think maybe the real problem isn't the niche but something else like thumbnails, hook, or posting times?
