Should I pick Steam or Epic for better social features?

I’ve been trying to decide between buying a game on Steam or the Epic Games Store, and the different features are making it tough. I own it on one already, but my friends are all on the other platform, and I’m not sure if the social features and cloud saves are worth buying it again just to play with them.

Sticking with Steam has been fine for me; cloud saves are solid and the UI just makes it easy to find friends to group up with. When my circle started leaning Epic, I didn’t want to buy twice just to game together.

Epic is decent for some titles but the store feel and social features are a step back; I bought there to chase a group, but the friction outweighed the benefit most days.

I always check if the game itself supports cross save or crossplay; sometimes it’s the game that blocks you, not the storefront.

I did try buying on Epic to join a friend group; we hit a wall because the game didn’t support crossplay between stores, so we gave up and stuck with one platform.

Maybe the problem isn’t the storefront at all; maybe it’s just coordinating play windows with people across time zones. If everyone is online at different hours, buying on the other store doesn't magically fix that.

If you’re still torn, a practical move is to pick the store that has the game you want now and think about how your friends are likely to use it; you can always revisit later if the group splits or grows.
