Should I rely on the train or book a taxi to the airport for an early flight?

I’m trying to figure out the best way to get from the suburbs to the airport for an early morning flight. I’ve looked at the regional rail schedule, and the first train would get me there just barely on time, but I’m worried about a potential delay causing me to miss check-in. Is relying on that first train a common gamble, or do most people just bite the bullet and pay for a very expensive taxi or a pre-booked ride at that hour?

I tried the first regional rail at 4am for a 6am flight once. It was fine only if everything lined up perfectly, but one tiny delay and I was sprinting to the check‑in desk. It felt like gambling.

Honestly, I wouldn’t rely on that first train. Most people I know either book a cab pre dawn or add a bigger buffer with a ride from the station. The extra cost buys real sleep and peace of mind.

There was one morning a maintenance delay canceled the dawn train I counted on, and I ended up paying for a taxi anyway. Since then I keep a backup plan and nothing feels guaranteed.

I’ve done train to the airport rail, then a quick Uber to the terminal. The math on paper looked fine, but the curbside ride saved me from a sprint, even if it cost more than I expected.

Sometimes I end up thinking about the coffee I’ll buy at the terminal and how quiet the early morning is before the crowds, which makes the plan feel less urgent, then it snaps back to reality.

What time do you actually need to be at check in, and when does yours close?
