Should i replace my timing belt now or wait for signs of failure?

I’m trying to decide if I should get my car’s timing belt replaced now or push it a bit longer. The manual says 60,000 miles, but I’m only at 58,500 and the car feels fine. I’m just nervous because I’ve heard so many stories about catastrophic engine failure if it snaps.

I was at 58,500 and I just did it anyway. Belt, tensioner, and water pump all got replaced. It wasn't cheap, but I slept better that night.

I think age matters as much as mileage. Rubber ages in heat and cold, so a belt at 5 years can be just as risky as one at 60k miles, depending on use.

I pushed mine and it failed on the highway, tow, big day wasted. It ran after, but I never trusted the belt again.

Do you think the real problem is the fear of catastrophic failure rather than the belt itself?
