Should I skip the photo op at the con if it's pricey?

I’m trying to decide if it’s worth getting a photo op with a guest at the upcoming con, but the price is pretty steep. I’m worried the rushed, thirty-second interaction might feel awkward and not live up to the hype.

I did one last year and the price hit me first but the memory stuck. The chat was short—sometimes 25 seconds, a quick thank you, a smile, then move on. The photo came out decent and I’ve pulled it up a bunch when I’m feeling nostalgic. It felt like a moment I’d remember, even if it wasn’t a long convo.

I skipped a bunch of them because I realized I hardly remember what we talked about once the line moves on. The hype is real, but the payoff can be just a pose and a signature. If you’re in two minds, what would make it feel worth it—money, memory, or conversation?

A friend did a two-photo package with us and we split the time. It went faster but it felt closer to a real chat, and we joked about something goofy the guest said during the shoot. It still felt rushed, but the extra time kept a memory we could actually tell stories about later.

I’m leaning toward the idea that maybe the problem isn’t the price or the space of the moment but the way the line sells you hype. I wandered into a snack break and watched a few interactions from a distance; some people really lit up, others looked ready to be done. If you’re unsure, maybe save the money for a later moment and see how you feel after panels.
