Should I upgrade the suspension on my CB500X or adjust my riding style?

My CB500X feels a bit vague and wallowy when I'm loaded up for a weekend camping trip, especially on those faster forest service roads. I'm wondering if upgrading the stock suspension components would make a noticeable difference, or if I should just adjust my riding style and accept it for what it is.

I rode mine loaded with camping gear last season. The wallow on fast forest service roads was the first thing I noticed. Upgrading the rear shock and a stiffer fork spring really helped tighten the feel and kept the front from diving with every bump. Not miracle level, but when I was carrying weight it stayed more composed.

I swapped in a higher spring rate and adjusted the preload on the front and I could tell a difference, but it wasn't dramatic. I still had to ride lighter than I wanted on rough sections and keep a loose grip.

Is the real problem the suspension or could it be tires and air pressure? I found dialing in the loaded weight pressure made a big difference, even before touching the shocks.

I started packing gear differently too, kept heavy items low and stacked to keep the center of gravity lower, and the bike felt steadier on the street and on the forest road exits. Then the trip got delayed because of rain and I forgot about it.
