Should i use a third-party asset store for the user interface?

I’m trying to decide if I should use a third-party asset store for my current project’s UI, but I’m worried it will make everything feel generic. I spent a week customizing a purchased menu system and it still doesn’t quite fit the game’s unique tone.

I bought a popular menu system last year. It started fast, but I kept fighting its defaults—padding, fonts, interactions—until I admitted I’d need a lot of manual tweaks. It saved days, then cost me weeks making it feel right.

I did a quick pass: swapped color tokens to match the game's brand, replaced icons, and tuned a few transitions. It helped visually, but the spacing and tap targets still felt off on mobile. I time-tested a couple of menus and the numbers didn’t move much.

Is the issue maybe not the UI skin but how menus are used in the game? Could the problem be the information hierarchy rather than the art style?

I’ve tried patching assets and adding tiny micro interactions, but it still felt generic. At times I wondered if starting from scratch would have saved time, even if I doubted it.
