Should I use dealership or independent shop for my transmission fluid change?

I’m trying to decide if I should get the transmission fluid in my 2015 sedan changed at the dealership or just go to my trusted independent mechanic. The dealer is quoting nearly double, but I’m worried the independent shop might not use the exact fluid specification or have the right scan tool for the temperature check and adaptation procedure.

I had a similar decision a year ago with my 2015 sedan. The dealer quoted almost double what I could get from an indie shop. I asked for the exact specification they use and whether they do the temperature check and adaptation. The indie shop said they could, and it came in cheaper, and they claimed they would follow the same spec. I still double-checked what product they used and asked for a quick confirmation that the adaptation would be done. It felt fine in the end, but I didn't feel like I got a clean guarantee.

I went indie. They used the right spec and did the temperature test thing, but I had to push for the adaptation step to happen. Price was much lower, and the car shifted smoothly afterward.

Do you think the real issue is the cost or the risk of missing the adaptation if you skip the dealer?

Part of me wonders if the problem is bigger than the service itself. A few times I assumed the fluid was the culprit, only to find a sensor or wiring issue later. Not a clean win either way.
