Should I worry about a stuck power steering cap causing pressure buildup?
#1
I was topping up my power steering fluid and noticed the reservoir cap doesn't seem to be venting properly, it was really hard to get off. Could this cause a problem with the system building up too much pressure, or is it usually not a big deal?

That cap can feel welded shut, but usually it’s just a stubborn vent and the system doesn’t suddenly pressurize on its own.

I once pried a stubborn cap loose with a rag, checked for foam or leaks, and there was nothing alarming after topping up.

Are you sure the cap is supposed to vent properly, or could the real issue be somewhere else like a hose or seal?

It’s easy to worry when the cap is hard to turn, but sometimes it’s just old gasket and heat stiffening—I’d watch the level and heat and not assume the worst.
