Should i worry about hairline cracks in my concrete patio?
#1
I’ve got a small concrete patio that’s just a few years old, but I’m already noticing a few hairline cracks starting to form. I was hoping this wouldn’t happen so soon, and I’m wondering if this is normal settling or if I should be concerned about it getting worse.

Hairline cracks on a patio that’s only a few years old are pretty common. Outdoor concrete moves with temperature and moisture, and some shrinkage happens as it cures.

I watched one line over a winter and it didn’t widen, so I figured it was just surface settling.

I cleaned the line, filled a small gap with polyurethane filler, and kept an eye on it after a few heavy rains; nothing dramatic showed up so far.

Maybe the bigger clue isn’t the line itself but drainage or soil under the slab; I kept thinking it was cosmetic until it pooled water after storms. Could drainage be the real issue?
